Halloween Is Coming! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Chrissy's turn to choose the challenge and she's going observant for this one and she's saying, "Halloween Is Coming!" which means she'd like to see those Halloween projects.

I don't do much for Halloween anymore since my kids are all adults.  I do give out treats, of course, but living in the country means we don't get many kids, just a couple of great-nieces and great-nephews who live close.  I do tend to indulge in some Halloween eating though.  I've got a tip for that.....well this one might work just for me.  I buy a couple of boxes of full size chocolate bars from Costco because, as it turns out, I have no problem having a mini chocolate bar here and a mini chocolate bar there until I've eaten the equivalent of two and a half full size chocolate bars in a day but I tend not to reach for the full size chocolate bars.  So, this way it works out better for me.  And, do the kids faces ever light up when they see that they're getting a "big" chocolate bar.  When you're in the country, you're expected to give a fairly big haul for each kid so chocolate bars aren't the only thing they'll get but for the sake of my reputation, we won't get into my behavior concerning the mini bags of chips.

I did make up a little treat box for this challenge....

I used a tutorial and made this with my Envelope Board Punch, but I can't remember exactly which one I used.  If you would like to make one, I'm sure could just Google and find one that'll work.  Added an ancient jack-o-lantern sticker, a digi stamp from Create With Tlc for the tag, and it was done.

Why not give our challenge a go this week and join us?  And, if you'd like more inspiration, be sure to check out what the Girlfriends have made.

This is what I did....

I made a shaker tree ornament.

Shapely! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's my turn to choose the challenge and I'm saying, "Shapely!" which means I want to see those makes that aren't square or rectangle.

This is what I did....

I made a Christmas tree ornament in the shape of a pennant.  And it's a shaker too!  Which, you would think I was active shaking when I took the photo given how blurry the bottom of it looks.  I think my phone was having a hard time focusing on the glitter die cut and that's why it's so fuzzy.

Show Us Your Eggs! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Chrissy's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Show Us Your Eggs!" which means she wants to see those Easter projects.

Okay, my friends, I have a confession to make.  I broke-ed the rules big time this week.  As you know, Little Red Wagon isn't just a card challenge (even though us Girlfriends usually choose to make a card), other creations are very welcome, including tags, scrapbook layouts, pocket pages, journalling, altered items....so, as I like to say....any papercraft goes.  Papercraft being the operative word here.  Buuuuuut, I didn't actually make any Easter projects.  'Round here Easter is more about the food and chocolate.  (I know chocolate is indeed a food but I think it definitely deserves its own mention).

I didn't want to skip this week's challenge though.  So, I've decided to show what I did make that was Easter related.  And, I did actually make it for this challenge.  And, as you probably have already guessed, it's not a papercraft.  It's.....

an amigurumi (crochet) bunny.  Yeah, so, welcome to my newest obsession hobby - crochet.  More specifically, amigurumi.  More more specifically, amigurumi with blanket yarn.  Because I really needed another hobby that takes sooooooo much time to produce the finished product, where most people don't really appreciate the effort, and you can buy a mass-produced version at a dollar store for almost nothing (especially looking at you, cards, for that last one).  But, I really enjoy the process, so....well.....there.  And really, isn't that what hobbies are mostly about?

So, that's the confession I had to make.  Oh, wait.  Since I'm on the topic of confessions, I have another one.  I feel it's not something a lot of people will generally take part in.  Here goes......this morning I ate leftover birthday (not mine) cake for breakfast.  Yep, I sure did.  And, you know what?  I'm not even sorry!  Hahahahaha!  *runs away laughing to both escape and try to work off some of those cake calories*

*peeks back in*  Why not give our challenge a go this week and join us?  And, if you'd like more inspiration, be sure to check out what the Girlfriends have made.

Pour Some Sugar On Me! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Kate's turn to choose the challenge and for 2024 she's doing challenges inspired by Def Leppard songs.  So fun!  This first challenge is based on one of their most popular songs (at least that's how I remember it), "Pour Some Sugar on Me", which means she wants to see projects that are sweet.

I went very literal and this is what I did......

....I made a Christmas shaker ornament featuring candy!  And, for bonus points, I actually included the word sweet on my make.  Got a mishmash of all different products on here....some Doodlebug stickers, Recollections shakers bits....and I believe the sweet die is Recollections as well, Christmas die is Honey Bee Stamps....and there was probably a tittle for the i when I cut it but it got lost immediately, and the rest is who-knows old stash.  (:

A little news for those who don't mind reading non-project parts in posts....both my oldest baby and sub-baby as well as myself, have recently gotten puppies.  Yay puppies!!  Theirs is an 8 week old golden retriever....

...who decided to take a nap on my youngest sub-baby's lap.  And ours is a 9 month old Australian Labradoodle....

who is an angel but somehow manages to move every time I snap a photo.  This is honestly the only one I have of her face....well, half her face.  We didn't really plan on getting puppies at the same time, it just worked out that way, which is good because they can be friends.  (:  I had been looking for an older puppy for a few months now (one that was in my budget....some breeders are asking anywhere from $4000 - $16,000 for an older puppy or a trained older puppy)....I just didn't want to do the whole puppy crate-training, house training all over again (even though it was about 15 years since I had done it last).  Miley is definitely crate-trained, and house-trained for the most part....she's had a couple accidents since we got her but that's to be expected.  She's basically crashed today (this being her fourth whole day with us).....and it currently dreaming (as I can tell from the little twitches) right beside my desk.  My cats are still very hesitant around her, Miley has gotten over her hesitation and wants to play, but they aren't having any of it yet.  Pretty sure my oldest cat of the two, Daisy, is laughing at Ollie saying, "See, what it's like?  Someone trying to chase you, always trying to get you to play, eating your food if you leave any in the dish.  How do you like it?"  lol

Trick or Treat! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Chrissy's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Treat or Treat!" which means that she would like to see those Halloween creations.

I'm not in the need of Halloween cards anymore so I decided to make.....

...a sign instead.  I combined clip art and the word BRAINSSSSSS in Canva, made the rest of the sentiment in Word, printed everything on patterned paper and then mounted it all on cardboard for a spooky (and a smidge insulting (: ) Halloween decor item.

All You Need Is Love! @ Little Red Wagon

 This week at

it's Kate's turn to choose the challenge and she continuing the trip through the music of The Beatles so the challenge is "All You Need Is Love!" which means that she wants to see projects about love.

Now, I've got something a little special and a little different for my make.....

....I'm showing you the project that my oldest asked me to make for his SO's birthday....featuring a photo of their proposal!!  He proposed back in May, and constructed a makeshift tripod for his phone to video the event.  This picture is a still from the video.  I don't know if many of you know about this Spotify photo frame trend......essentially, that bar of lines is a barcode for that song, Marry That Girl.  So, from the Spotify app, you can scan that barcode and that song will start playing.  Cool, eh?

I downloaded a free Spotify icons svg, as well as the barcode and cut it out of vinyl with my Silhouette.  The hardest part was figuring out how to get everything on there straight.  Sure made me wish I had a large grid mat!  In case it's not obvious, the glass in the frame is totally clear, and anything you see on or through it other than the photo and the black vinyl are reflections and/or the surface it's sitting on.  It was not an easy one to photo, that's for sure!

And yes, I do realize it's not exactly a papercraft.  But, seeing as I'm on the DT, I think I have a little leeway.  (:

Wedding date has been set for July 2023.  💗

Digi Do! @ Little Red Wagon

  This week at

it's my turn to choose the challenge and I'm choosing one of my favourites - "Digi Do!".  I just want to see a digital stamp, image, sentiment, clip art etc. etc. etc....as long as it has some digital element, it's in!

This is what I digidid.....

I went with something a little different this week....I made an ATC.  (If you're not familiar with ATCs, they are artist trading cards.  I won't go into all the details, Google can tell you more about them better than I could.  I will say that ATCs are 2.5" x 3.5", so mini when compared to cards.)  I also coloured on textured cardstock....haven't done that in quite some time.

I'm not setting the best example here....after I finished this, another after midnight make on the day it's due.....I realized that I never put the creator's name on the digi file.  ):  I'm usually quite good at doing that so I can give the artist a shout out.  If anyone happens to know where this might have come from, do let me know and I'll update this post.

So, why not give our challenge a go this week and join us?  And, if you'd like more inspiration, be sure to check out what the Girlfriends have made.

Edited to add:  Huh.  It looks like I completely forgot to colour her lips.  If I get a chance, I'll remedy that and take a new photo.....chances are, I won't get the time to do that today....but can we all just acknowledge that I at least thought about doing it?  (:

Do They Know It's Christmas? @ Little Red Wagon

 This week at

it's Kate's turn to chose the challenge and she's saying, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" which just means that she wants to see your Christmas/Winter Holiday  makes.  After all, it's only 12 days until Christmas!

This is what I did....

*gasp*  It's not a card. Nope, I made a mantle/shelf decoration!  This is a great way to use up some of those holiday paper scraps.  For each tree, all I did was die cut four triangles, fold them in half and then glue them together.  Then I just added a glitter foam die cut star, a computer generated sentiment and a Thickers ampersand, and it's all there was to it!

Tag, You're It! @ Little Red Wagon

 This week at

it's Chrissy first turn as hostess and she's saying, "Tag, You're It!" which mean she would like to see you make a tag or have a tag/tags on your projects.

Now, as my long-time readers might remember, I am not a fan of tags....however, my last couple attempts have worked out okay.  But this time.....

I actually made one I like!  So, I made five of them!  And, they are tags with a smaller tag attached to them for some (hashtag) double tagging madness!  (Haha, see what I did there?)

Digi is from Tiddly Inks.

Prepared For Christmas! @ Little Red Wagon

 This week at

it's Imke's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Prepared For Christmas!" which just means that she wants to see those tags, bags, packaging or ornaments.  Deck the halls!

This is what I did......

I made a Rudolph tag!  It's not good enough to "go down in history" but it'll look cute hanging off a gift bag, I'm thinking.

Halloween! @ Little Red Wagon

 This week at

it's Doni's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Halloween!"  Of course, that just means that she wants to see those Halloween projects.

This is what I did.....

Look!  It's not a card!  It's a witch's hat clip/pin!  Don't mind the cat, I borrowed it from my Halloween display to model the hat to show its pinning capabilities.  Plus, I find this perspective amusing...I'm thinking that some of you might be wondering just how big that hat really is.....like could one wear it??  Naw, it's about the size of a regular clothespin....as that's what inside actually is.  I got inspiration for it here.  I used some fuzzy fun foam rather than paper and then just dressed it up.  Gonna add it to my Halloween banner for a little extra silliness.  (:

No Cards! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Brenda's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "No Cards!". So you can definitely guess what she doesn't want to see this week.

Even though I make cards almost exclusively, I love the "no cards" challenges because it forces me to make something different/try something new. And this is what I tried this time....

I made two boxes!  One was used to gift molasses cookies, the other zucchini blueberry loaf.  Both delicious!  [The baked goods, not the boxes.  I sampled the baked goods many, many times (quality control, of course) but I never took a nosh of the boxes.]

I used this tutorial for the brown box....only thing I changed was the size of the patterned paper.  I'm a bit picky about how much cardstock I have showing so I wanted the patterned paper a bit larger.   I used this tutorial for the rectangular box.  I would suggest not using your bone folder on this box, if you get those folds too creased, your paper might rip.  (Guess how I know this.)  Also be sure you use a fairly sturdy piece of patterned paper.  I found the panels just a bit off and had to do a little bit of trimming so it would fit together better.  But that was most likely my measuring skills, not the tutorial.

Why don't you give our challenge a go this week and head on over to Little Red Wagon and link up?  And, while you're there, be sure to check out the fabulous projects the other Girlfriends have created.

Books! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Doni's turn to choose the challenge and she's keeping it simple saying, "Books!" which just means she wants to see project that have to do with books, images about books or to do with reading or you could even make a.....

....bookmark (attached to a tag)!!  I used a Paper Smooches snowman die to make the, well, snowman and I backed it with some study cardstock and then attached it to an oversized paper clip.  Didn't use paper for the snowman, it's all fun foam.  Plain old regular fun foam, fuzzy felt-like fun foam for the hat....which kinda looks like astroturf which I didn't realize until I had it all put together or else I definitely would have went with another colour and glitter fun foam for the scarf....which I'm sure the recipient will really appreciate seeing as it's bound to leave glitter all over the pages of their book.  Buuuuuut, (confession time) I kinda used the glitter fun foam on purpose for that exact reason.  Seeeeeeeeee, this was a thank you to a coworker at one of my jobs.  This woman and I don't really work together together except for a handful of occasions, but it's a very small company so we definitely cross paths a lot.  She is the most oxymoronic person I know....high-strung, a perfectionist, tends to (as I call it) "get flappy" (yep, pretty much as it sounds, picture an agitated bird turning in circles), gruff, complains about her colleagues etc. BUT....she buys us all gifts for Christmas, which is very sweet of her and wholly unnecessary, and it's not just a $5 gift card either.  So, of course, I appreciate her thoughtfulness and a thank you is in order.....BUT......years ago on the first two occasions I worked with her [in her "department" which I never have done again, and will never do again (stayed tuned, you'll see why), any subsequent job sharing has happened in my "department"] she outright hollered at me twice for absolutely no reason.  Like just went off.  Me and the other people on the scene basically all froze to our spots with WTFFF looks on our faces.  (In case you're wondering that's What The F&ckity, F&ck, F&ck.)  It should actually be funny but being a grown a$s 42 year old (at the time) woman getting yelled at for moving a couple of (fairly worthless) figurines closer together on a table....well, ha, as you can see, I'm still not over it.  Hence, the dollar store WTFFF (that's What The Flaky, Flake Flake) glitter fun foam with strict instructions to shed all over every book and everything else it can drop its dander on.

Coz that's how I roll.  Great big chicken with a sizable passive aggressive streak.  (:

Gift Tag Goodness! @ Tiddly Inks

This month at

the challenge is to make a *grumble* gift tag. *sigh* *whimper* *and sigh again* I know I say it every time but.....I hate making tags because I normally suck at it. It usually takes three or four tries for me to make something usable. And, unfortunately, I just don't have that kind of time these days.

That said, although this did end up with a couple versions in the circular file, I think I got it done in the end....

Now, I seem to have some sort of mental block when it comes to using Tiddly Inks images that are actually available.....numerous times I've used a retired image or one that wasn't quite released yet....and I've done that yet again as this was a past freebie.  *another sigh*  But, this digi is very similar to the snowman in the Inky Critters set so if you like him you can grab his twin brother there (along with three of his friends).

Why not grab a Tiddly Inks image, and join us for the challenge?  And be sure to  check out the fabulousness the DT has come up with.

Scary It! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Imke's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Scary It!" which just means that she wants to see those Halloween projects. So fitting because Halloween, or as I like to call it, Eat-So-Many-Mini-Chocolate-Bars-You've-Actually-Consumed-The-Equivalent-Of-Four-Regular-Sized-Chocolate-Bars-But-This-Way-You-Can-Trick-Yourself-Into-Not-Feeling-Guilty Day is tomorrow.

I went with something a little different this week....

I made origami jack-o-lanterns! They were a little tough to fold seeing as I used patterned paper, which is definitely not origami paper. But, it worked out because then the top folds were all sturdy enough to hang on the string - no gluing required!

Here's a couple more photos with the whole of my Halloween decor so you can get the full effect....

Tag It! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Imke's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Tag It" which means she wants us to make a tag. And that made me immediately do this....

....because, I can't make tags.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that having a challenge about making tags is not a good challenge, it's an excellent one, in fact.  But that doesn't change the fact that I can't make tags.  This isn't the first time I've come across a make-a-tag DT duties challenge.  In the past I've kinda sorta cheated by including a tag on a card.  But, this time the challenge was to make an actual tag.  So, cue the gif above.

I decided to just knuckle down and git 'er done.  It didn't go so well.  It didn't go so well four different times.  I told myself to just treat the tag like it was a little card and go that route but I decided to give it one last try and came up with this.....

It's hard to tell with this picture but I paper pieced two of the flowers so I could curl up the petals as I thought it looked a little flat.  Did some background stamping too....kind of a baby mixed media - mixed media lite, if you will.  But, I daresay, it's an actual tag.  And it turned out a-okay.  (But we won't say that too loud as not to further upset the four other tags in various stages of nakedness & gawdawfulness that are spewed all over my craft desk.)

Flower stamp is from Rubberneckers, it's one of those two step ones but I just used the outline.  Sentiment is computer-generated.

Happy Extraterrestrial Abductions Day @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Brenda's turn to choose the challenge and she's celebrating Extraterrestrial Abductions Day by going with an outer space theme. So fun!

I went with something different this time.....

See, not a card!  I used a pack of canvas stars I've had for a good, long time and got all mixed media with 'em.  First I got out my gesso.....and found out that it had almost solidified.  Turns out if you don't use a liquid medium for two or three years it'll dry out.  Huh, that's a shocker.  (Like my sarcasm font?)  I decided to just go with it (mostly because my nearest gesso and that type of product supplier is a good half and hour drive away) and just scooped it out of the jar and globbed it on with my hands.  Worked pretty good, more like texture paste than gesso but seeing as my texture paste is probably just as old it saved me from opening it and being stunned by its condition too.  While I was making a ridiculous mess doing that I discovered if I flipped the stars gesso side down and gave them a bit of a rub on the newspaper I was using to cover my work area then the newsprint would transfer to the stars.  Of course it's backwards but seeing as it's just a super boring story in my local paper it doesn't really matter. After that I just added some Distress Inks, stamping, some little gold puffy stickers and some Pitt pen outlines.  Then I trussed them all up with some twine.  Doesn't get much more outer space than stars, amirite?

Why not give our challenge a go this week and head on over to Little Red Wagon and link up?  And, while you're there, be sure to check out the fantastic projects the other Girlfriends have created.
