Shake It! @ Little Red Wagon

This is what I did....

As you can see, I went with something a little different in the way of a shaker....I made the 8 the shaker part!  My inside cutting job is a bit ragged....I wanted my Silhouette to do it but it won't read the registration marks on patterned paper so I had to do it by hand.  It cut that digi candle out though.  It's from Melonheadz Illustrating.

Made this for my oldest's birthday.  And, shortly after, my phone spontaneously made me this...

I didn't even ask it to.  A little while after I took a bunch of photos of the birthday boy and his brother and sister (who still, even at the ages they are, make me have to get slightly cross with them in order to get a decent picture) I got a notification from my phone telling me my pictures were ready.  I was all like, "Huh?" and this was what it had for me.  Pretty cool, eh?  I told my phone it could make me these anytime.

Hop To It! @ Little Red Wagon

This is what I did.....

As you can see, it's a slider so.....

That silly bunny!  It hopped to it right into a cup of tea.  Stamp is from The Cat's Pajamas.

And, when I saw this fitting piece of paper, I couldn't help but make an envelope too.....(full disclosure.....I found that piece of paper because I was looking for a fitting piece of paper because I wanted to make an envelope so my card would be eligible for the challenge at The Cat's Pajamas....)

I noticed that the patterned looked very much like mugs so I added some steam swirls to make it look like it was full too.....but more full of tea than bunny!  Pretty difficult to drink bunny I would imagine.

Move On! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Brenda's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Move On!", and she doesn't mean she wants you to get outta here, she just wants to see projects that have some sort of interactive feature. So, think shakers, pop ups, sliders or maybe even....

a reveal wheel card!  My first one ever.  I gotta admit, it was easier than I thought it was gonna be.  When I was going along making it, and everything was going swimmingly, I kept saying to myself, "Okay, so when am I going to mess this up?  There's no way I'll get it done without making some sort of stupid mistake....."  And I did, of course.  When I stamped the sentiments on the wheel, inside my very carefully traced circles, I just stamped them all parallel to the bottom.  Of course, when you turn the wheel, the words ended up sideways and upside down, save one.  That wasn't a big deal though, just die cut another scalloped circle, traced the openings again and lightly wrote the words inside the next time so I'd know which way to stamp 'em.  Easy-peasy!

I am kicking myself for not thinking to paper piece the balloon and then die cut the wheel out of the same paper though.  I think that would have taken the card up a notch, don't you?  Next time, for sure.

Oh, and here's a craptastic video of how it works.  Sorry, I should have conscripted a child-o'-mine enlisted an aide to help film it.  Still, you get the idea.

Purrs & Wags @ Little Red Wagon

This is what I did....

I made a slider card! I love sliders. It's a Lawn Fawn die which makes 'em super easy. I am kicking myself for not masking the Too Cute on the heart on the acetate so it's revealed when the slider is pulled up. That woulda been sweet. Oh well, next time.

Divine Dimension @ Tiddly Inks

we've got a fun challenge for you. It's all about dimension which means we don't want to see those flat cards or pages, we want to see projects of a more 3D nature. All you need is a Tiddly Inks image and something popped up and you're good!

Okay, I know you all are probably looking at that and thinking, "Ummmmm, that is darn flat.....and besides there's no Tiddly Inkling!" Well, don't worry, coz when you open it up....

Ta-da!  It's a twisted pop up card! Yay!  I used three of the stamps from Inky Critters.  I feel kinda bad that I left the snowman out.  ):  I'll see if I can get you coloured up soon, Mr. Snowman.

I've made a really cruddy video of it in action......it's midnight and I'm the only one up so I had to do it all solo....whatcha gonna do, eh?  It gives you the basic idea anyway.....

*grumble*  You can even hear how my finger got in the way there.  Oh, well.

Get (Inter)Active! @ Little Red Wagon

it's my turn to choose the challenge and I'm gonna make you work for it this week. I want you to get active....interactive, that is! I'm sure you all know what I mean.....if you've made a project that shakes, slides, pops up, has a pull tab etc. etc. etc. it's in.

It's a slider card!

Let me tell you a bit about my journey to making a slider card.  I saw one of these cards when I first started making cards....eight years ago.....and I thought it was the COOLEST thing EVER.  And I vowed I would make one.  I even went out and bought Staz-On ink and acetate and everything.  And it never happened.  Kept thinking I should, kept chickening out.  Fast forward to a couple months ago when I won a Lawn Fawn gift certificate.....and immediately put it towards their Magic Colour Slider Die which I had been eyeing up for quite some time.  Forward again to me sitting down to making this card.....and discovering that the Staz-On ink had dried up.  Geez, Staz-On, what gives?  Whadaya mean I can't leave a product like ink untouched for like, pretty much ever, and have it not dry out?  That's Crazy-Town right there.  (Actually, what's Crazy-Town is the fact that I actually thought it wouldn't be dried out.)  Luckily, I was going by a Michaels the very next day....and Staz-On was on sale, so it was no biggie.  Must say, that die made making this super-duper easy-peasy.  So, I'm glad it took me this long....coz I know without the die, it probably would have been a big ole mess of wrongly measured paper stained with Staz-On and frustration.

Hippity Hop @ Little Red Wagon

I went with the obvious....

....and did an Easter card with a bunny.  I really like this bunny but.....given its physical attributes I'm not sure how much hopping it could actually achieve.  But, seeing as I'm not a warrener nor a cuniculturist, I really shouldn't pass judgement on how a bunny must look to be able to jump around.  I'm also not an artist, and if you asked Pernilla Nilsson, who is an artist, and the illustrator of said bunny, she'd probably either point out that the bunny's back bounding legs are just behind it and not visible, or roll her eyes at my dissection of her super cute drawing.  Either way, I think I'm just gonna declare that this is the hoppiest bunny to ever hippity hop.

I CAME IN LIKE A WRECKING BAAAAAAALLLLL - Fab Friday @ Tiddly Inks

Where has November gone?  This month has flown by, well for me at least.  It's also Black Friday too, right?  If any of my American readers happen to be by, do tell me if you do the whole Black Friday thing.  As a Canadian it sounds, well not to be insulting, weird.  Getting up in the wee hours of the morning to stand outside (in the cold in some places!) in a line to wait for a store to open?  The crowds and the pushing/jostling must be unbearable.  And, how long do you have to stand in line to purchase your scored deals?  I'm picturing it as forever.

A lot of retailers on the north side of the border have gotten into the Black Friday spirit in the last few years and there are deals to be had here too.....but they are generally specials that last a whole week.  They are usually pretty good bargains, offering a good 20% to 30 % off everything in store (or online) with some stores doing decent door crasher deals, but, for the most part, hours are generally the same as any other day.  (Though, that might be different in some of the big cities.)   We tend to get a little crazier with our Boxing Day sales up here, though still nothing along the lines of Black Friday.  Would love to hear about your Black Friday experience if you're willing to share!

Yep, when I saw this image that had to be done.  It's one of the three digis from the Cute and Clumsy Elves set.  As you can see it's an interactive card coz if you are going to come in like a wrecking ball you better a least look like you're capable of wrecking something.

This is what I did....

As you can I made a shaker card.  It's a pretty darn staticy piece of acetate, despite me running an Embossing Buddy over it, but I kinda like how the glitter sticks to it, adds to it I think.  I shoulda added more shaker guts though.....that always seems to be the way when I made shaker cards....I either add to much or too little!

Move It! @ Little Red Wagon

And, back to the challenge.  Brenda is telling us to Move It because she wants to see cards/projects that do more than just sit there and look pretty....she wants to see shakers or spinners or sliders or magic cards....or anything that'll do some moving.

This is what I did.....

As you can see, it's a spinner card.  I was planning on taking a video to show it actually spinning but that didn't happen and it's 12:37am right now and I don't think any of my kids would be happy if I woke them up to hold the camera.  Well, any two of my kids.  This is going to be my middlest's grade 8 grad card so I wouldn't get him involved because I wouldn't want to spoil it.

I'm actually quite pleased with how this turned out.  I'll admit to playing with it more than once.  I just wish it spun peeerrrrffeeeectly, kwim?  I don't like it when I have to goose it or shake it to get it going.  Still, I'm going to call it a win.

a shaker card!  I'll admit I went a little overboard with the microbeads.....but I like my shaker cards to sound extra shaky so I wasn't upset about it.  Digi was a freebie from Birdie Brown who has long since closed up shop.

Shape Up @ Little Red Wagon

Now, I love me a shaped card. I really don't know why I don't make them more often. (To be honest I do know why I don't make them more often.  It's called Being Lazy.)  Have to admit, I was quite happy with how this turned out....

See, not only is it a shaped card, it's a shaker too! And I love me a shaker card almost as much as I love shaped cards.  And I put lots of microbeads in there so you get the auditory bonus too.  Shaker cards - where three out of the five senses are engaged!  And if you happen to enjoy the smell and taste of paper, sequins or glue....then it's all five senses - yay!

Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming...- Fab Friday @ Tiddly Inks

Somehow, it being Friday today escaped me until this morning. So, I'm slightly late with my Fab Friday post. But, I do know what I was distracted by in order to forget that it was Fab Friday today and therefore I should have scheduled a post for 1:00am this morning.

It was a giant bag of Jujubes.

I'm talking about a Costco giant-sized bag of jujubes. And by giant-sized, I don't just mean the bag is really, really big, I mean that it's sized for an actual giant. A fairy tale giant, not like an Andre The Giant (may he rest in peace) giant, more like a Jack and the Beanstalk giant. And, even then, the giant probably wouldn't be able to eat it all in one sitting.

Not only was I distracted by the GSBOJ last night, I was really distracted by it this morning. See, I'm working from home today (for a bit anyways, I'm hoping to also get my craft on - fingers crossed!)......and working from home/being at home with a GSBOJ sitting near my right ear, with just a wall separating us, well, that's a recipe for....normally I'd say disaster, but it doesn't really qualify as disaster scale in the grand scheme of things. It's certainly a recipe for me repetitiously putting jujubes in my mouth until I have a stomach ache.

So, what's a person to do in a situation like this? Well, this is how I normally handle it. I go hide my eyes in the livingroom while I task my kids with hiding the GSBOJ somewhere in the house...."And, for crying out loud, hide them good so I can't find them!" And, problem solved.

Now, if I could just find where I hid my willpower, I'd be all set.

That was a very long intro for a card that has absolutely nothing to do with candy. But, here it is all the same....

Not sure if this is obvious from the picture but it's a hair gel card.  Man, I had a time making this!  All small plastic baggies are rectangle shaped, right?  But the bigger, more square ones, are kinda big for a card.  So, I ended up having to cut the sides off a bag, and then masking taping them shut once the gel was added.  I'm not completely confident with my baggie-taping job and I'm pretty sure it's going to blow hair gel out the side at some point.  Still, it looks pretty cool right now anyways.

I used Wryn Just Keep Swimming.  Yep, and now that I typed that (and my title) I'm going to have Dory's voice in my head for the rest of the day.  Finding Nemo was an absolute favourite of my middlest when he was a pre-schooler so I've seen it many, many, many times.  Have to admit, I wasn't too upset when Cars came along and knocked it out of his top spot.....always thought Finding Nemo was a touch dark at the beginning for little ones.  Though I grew up with seeing Bambi's mom get shot and that freaked-me-out scene in ET with all tents and ET all flaky white.....and I turned out all right.

Except for an extreme case of GSBOJ gluttony, that is.

Birthdays @ Melonheadz Friends

I did something a bit interesting this time 'round.....

Don't know if it's perfectly seeable from that shot. Here's a close up....

There we go.  As you can tell, I cut (well, had my Silhouette cut on my behalf) the circles and the squigglies out of the present and made it into a shaker.  A bit fiddly, it was, but it actually worked out perfectly.  Well, perfectly except for the Fun Foam peeking out here and there.   But, I decided not to let that bother me as there wasn't much I could do about it anyways.  I used an image from the Happy Birthday set.  Lots of wonderful birthday art in this bundle!

Be My Valentine @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Donna's turn to choose the challenge and she's celebrating that upcoming day of hearts (and ridiculously overpriced flowers and restaurants jacking up their prices and pressure to be romantic *retch retch yuck*), Valentine's Day.

In case it wasn't obvious from my sentence above....not a fan of Valentine's Day. But, know what I am a fan of? Doing this on Valentine's Day 'coz it's the most awesome thing ever.....

On Feb. 14th go to your local Zehrs or Real Canadian Superstore, or even Wal-Mart would work, and park yourself in between the floral department and the Valentine's Day section at about 6:00pm-6:30pm. This is the perfect observation spot. Now, be prepared to watch the panic stricken actions of many husbands and boyfriends as they race into those basically war torn and depleted areas desperately looking for a Valentine's Day gift, because the day obviously must have snuck up on them....either all their calendars were stuck on January and they still thought they had a month or so of time to shop, or they had just woken up from a coma or something like that. The absolute dismay on their faces when they can find only a wilted bouquet or two of yellow carnations.....the omg-I'm-screwed dejected shoulder slump when they see that the only chocolate that's left on the shelf are Valentine's themed Kinder Eggs....well, it's one of the most amusing things you'll ever see. Honestly, I'm torn between whether I should be getting a few girlfriends together and setting up lawnchairs to watch the show (with each of us heading to the Wine Rack to grab a few of those free samples at regular intervals) or setting up a stand outside the store and selling long-stemmed roses for $100 a dozen.

But, hey, I do make Valentine's Day cards for my family. Because, as most of you know, when you have kids you celebrate these occasions for them no matter what your own personal thoughts about it are. So, here's one of them....

No stamps on this one.  Just paper, a heart shaker, some ribbon and pearls.

Happy New Year! @ Little Red Wagon

it's Donna's turn to set the challenge and she yelling, "Happy New Year!".  Oh wait, I don't actually know if Donna is yelling. She might not be the yelling type. So she might just be saying "Happy New Year!" in a slightly exclamatory voice rather than yelling. Well, no matter how she's saying it, she does want to see it....your projects about New Year's that is.

I must admit, I was making this card late last night. I had known what I wanted to do for a bit but my inner three year old did not want to do the work. And no amount of cajoling was getting her to my crafty spot 'coz even though she knew it would probably turn out pretty cool, she knew it was going to be finicky work. Heck, it's not that I didn't agree with her, but I hate crafting last minute so I was a little perturbed at her for holding off.

Anyhoo, here it is.....

As you can see I've got me some champagne glasses on there filled with some bubbly. 'Coz they're fairly small and skinny it was a bit fiddly to make them. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to cut the fun foam that thin but it did work out.

Traditional Christmas Colours @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Heather turn to choose the challenge and she wants to see traditional Christmas colours, meaning reds and greens, white and golds, etc. I went with that standard red & green colour scheme....

....and made a shaker card.  (A little bit of blue snuck on there too, but really, it's not an out there colour for Christmas anyways.)
