Not Too Shabby @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's my turn to choose the challenge and I'm saying, "Not Too Shabby".....but actually you can be as shabby as you want! We're looking for shabby chic projects, so whatever level of shabby you want to give is a-okay with me.

This is what I did....

Sorry for the not-so-great photo....had to photograph it at night and then out the door it went. No stamps on this one.....just patterned paper, some seaming binding, flowers and a computer generated sentiment.  Fashioning that bow was definitely the most time consuming part of the whole thing.....while except for the time I spent cajoling my middlest to stop doing his homework and let me have the computer for 30 seconds so I could print out the sentiment.  He was doing quite a convincing role reversal about it....."Now, Mom, what's more important?  My homework or you finishing your card?"  Cheeky monkey.

Under the Sun @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Heather's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Under the Sun" which just means that she wants to see a project with a sun on it.

This is what I did.....

As you can see I made a little window scene with the sun peeking in.  Of course, it's not to scale, seeing as if it was everything would have burst into flames for having the sun so close.  But, we can say that it's the sun's proximity that has evaporated all the water and that's why there's none in the vase, rather than, well, the fact that a certain JanR is not adept at colouring water.  Gosh darn, that sun.

Stamp is from Paper Smooches.  I added glitter Nuvo Drops to the centre of the flowers.....not sure why they cracked like that but I'm going to pretend I'm happy 'bout that.

I Believe In Unicorns - Fab Friday @ Tiddly Inks

Yep, I do believe in unicorns.....I just wish they would have gotten on that darn boat when they were supposed to.....you know, along with the green alligators and long-necked geese, some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees, some cats and rats and elephants.....

I used Lovely Unicorn.....and there's a bunch of extras with it, including a super cool YOUnicone....which I do wish I had used instead coz it's so cool.  But this was the one I had printed out, and the computer was being used for homework (which kinda trumps crafty-time) so I coloured it up.  Those stitched tree were in my you-bought-it-you're-gonna-use-it-before-it-gets-put-away-pile so that, along with the fact that I do like how this turned out, made for happy crafty-time indeed.  Yay!

Waterworld @ Little Red Wagon

it's Imke's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying "Waterworld" which just means that she wants to see cards about Kevin Costner with gills. Ha, kidding, of course! No, she wants to see cards that feature animals in or around water.

This is what I did....

I went with a pretty penguin in pink!  She's just climbed out of the water and put on her hat and scarf so she stays nice and warm.  Digi is from Bugaboo Stamps.

Piece Out @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

Brenda's up again and she's saying "Piece Out" which just means she wants to see one of my favourite techniques - paper piecing! Easy-piecingy. (Okay, that one was sub-par but I'm going to leave it in as punishment to myself because I couldn't come up with anything better.)

I do love paper piecing. Nothing better to cover up a colouring oopsie or just flake out on a particularly difficult patch on clothing.....you know the ones I'm taking about, those big, full skirts that have no pleats or anything....I always have a hard time making those look good. But, just fill 'em up with patterned paper and problem solved! I didn't do a skirt this time 'round but it is some clothing....

Digi is from Mo's Digital Pencil.  This image so reminds me of my oldest, who has a side firewood business.  That child lives to work, I swear.  Aside from the wood, he's got a two credit co-op course this semester, and he works after school for at least three hours a night, and all day Saturdays.  I worry sometimes that he takes on too much but he's happy doing, kwim?  Plus, he doesn't let school slide, yesterday he SnapChatted me a photo of his last math test - 111.1 %.  (I'm going to spare you my usual rant about getting over 100% in math class.)  Captioned it, "Maybe I should just start teaching the class" the Cheeky Monkey did.  So, I'm figuring it doesn't make a lot of sense for me to step in and mess his system up seeing as he seems to have it all well in hand.  Annnnnnd, I do believe that ends the Mom Bragging portion of the blog post.

Play Along @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Brenda's turn to choose the challenge and she's inviting everyone to "Play Along" which just means she wants to see so sort of play. So think games or animals playing or swimming or toys or like what I decided to go with.....

....sports!  I bet a lot of you are wondering about the sentiment there.  Yep, that is actually an English word, it's a hockey word.  Here's the definition:

Ferda

Commonly used among (teenage Canadian) hockey players. It means "For the" for short.  Like ferda boys and for the boys. Also used to describe someone as a good friend or something that sounds cool.

He did it ferda boys.

Riley: Wanna play some puck ferda?
Jonesy: That sounds pretty ferda.

Florals & Plants @ Tiddly Inks

we're all about florals & plants. Perfect for spring! You can see all the Tiddly floral & plant images right here (in case you don't have any to enter the challenge with).

It's funny, I loooooove flower cards. I really do. But, I almost never make cards using floral images. So I was glad this was the theme for the challenge this month because then I got to make this.....

.....and I do like how it turned out.....well, mostly.  (Before I get into the "well, mostly" part, let me just say that I used Grandma's Lilies....such a gorgeous digi, amirite?  Only $2.00!!)  See that embossed....or, more rightly, debossed (grrrrr), layer there?  Let me explain how that happened......

Scene:  Cuttlebug Embossing Folder Factory.  Two employees have just finished a run of Birds & Swirls embossing folders and are setting up the machine to do a run of Flowers & Pluses (not official name) embossing folders.

Employee # 1:  *yawns*  I'm bored.  You bored?
Employee # 2:  *gives Employee # 1 a look that conveys all the boredom ever but, not in a I-hate-my-job type of way because they quite like their job, they get treated well, get a good wage, and Taco Tuesdays at the cafeteria is something they always look forward to*
E1:  Let's shake things up.
E2:  *gives E1 a wary look because the last time they said, "let's shake things up" they were picking plastic out of their hair for a week*
E1:  *seeing E2's reluctance*  Just a little shake up, I promise.
E2:  Okay, what?
E1:  You know how we put the Cuttlebug logo on the front of the folders, and that way everyone knows which way to put the paper in?
E2:  Yeah.
E1:  Let's put it on the other side so that everyone who uses this folder will get a debossed image instead of an embossed image.  *snickering*
E2:  *shrugs*  So?  They'll flip the paper over.
E1:  But what if it's textured cardstock.  That won't work.
E2:  *shrugs again*  They'll just get a new sheet of paper.
E1:  C'mon.  I'll bet someone somewhere out there will end up p.o'ed if we do this.  *seeing E2's shrug-nod sets up machine to do just that*

As you can see, when I die cut that tag I purposely did so to leave a small bit of the image still on the uncut part.  So, when I used the embossing folder on that piece there was no way I could flip it over or just grab another sheet of paper.
