Slim Pickings! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Shani's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Slim Pickings!" which just means that she wants to see those slimline cards.

This is what I did.....

I made a 19th birthday birthday card for my sub-baby, Matt.  I recently scored some no-name dies on the cheap from Ebay, among them, this candle die, which looks this...

At first, I couldn't decide if I wanted to cut the stripey candles in white or the background candles in white, so I did both.  And then I looked at the stripey die cut and thought about how long it would take to glue 19 of them onto the background candle die cuts and how I'd end up with glue everywhere.  So, I pulled out my Inktense pencils and did a watercolour look instead.  Much easier!  I designed the sentiment in Canva and printed it out, and that was that.

So, why not give our challenge a go this week and join us?  And, if you'd like more inspiration, be sure to check out what the Girlfriends have made.

Star Struck! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Doni's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Star Struck!" which just means that she would like to see stars (or a star) on your project.

Before we get to my make, I need to take a moment to apologize to fellow Girlfriend, Kate.  I'm very sorry, Kate.  I take full responsibility for my actions.  I should have known better.  I really, really, really, really, really shouldn't have posted a card last week that said, "Let It Snow".  Due to my carelessness with die cuts, the temperature in Ontario, which was around 27º-28ºC last week (unheard of for April in Ontario), has plummeted to hovering around the freezing mark, and it's been snowing on and off since yesterday.  Kate (and all other Ontarians), I hope you can forgive me.

Now, after that heartfelt apology, did I do something this week to encourage warm weather to come back?  Nope, I didn't.  In fact I so didn't that I've actually made another Christmas creation.  But.....

....at least this one doesn't even hint at snow.  I made a tree ornament!  Got some funky corrugated cardboard from some packaging and used it for the base.  Twine is upcycled too, it was used to attach at tag to a pair of pants my daughter had bought.  Second week in a row for a shaker....that's what happens when you don't clean your desk between projects....you just decide to use what's already out - ha!

So, why not give our challenge a go this week and join us?  And, if you'd like more inspiration, be sure to check out what the Girlfriends have made.

Layers! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Chrissy's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Layers!"  Very fitting as she's the GOAT when it comes to layers.

Now, since most of my cards do have layers, I wanted to do something more than just my usual clean & layered make.  I got thinking about what I could make that would showcase layers while also keeping in mind my desire to take my cards up a half a notch.  This is what I came up with.....

...a shaker card!  A white on white on white on clear on iridescent white on white on white on white shaker card.  So yeah, I think I got the layers part down.  (:

Spring or Fall? @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Imke's turn to choose the challenge and she's asking, "Spring or Fall?" which means she wants to see project about or in the theme of those two seasons.

While I prefer fall over spring with regards to weather (so much less unpredictability and mud with fall!), I like crafting spring better.  I feel like there's so much more you can do with spring, and the colours are considerably brighter, at least imho.  So, here's my spring make.....

I love this happy girl from Melonheadz Illustrating.  Paired her with some bright, blue skies paper to complete the spring vibe.

I've challenged myself to....let's say.....make more of an effort, in regards to my crafting as of late instead of just going with my usual layouts and the like.  I'm not gonna go too crazy, meaning I'm not planning on stepping outside my comfort zone or anything, but I'm trying to be more mindful when I'm making something, ykwim?  Asking myself if there's something I could do to somewhat elevate what I'm working on.  That's what led me to make this frame instead of....well, not making the frame.  lol  I certainly won't be doing anything groundbreaking, but seeing as I'm pleased with this card, I'm gonna call my first attempt a success.

So, why not give our challenge a go this week and join us?  And, if you'd like more inspiration, be sure to check out what the Girlfriends have made.

As You Like It:  people or critters - Admittedly, I like both but people might edge out critters by just a little bit.  I find with people, you can make a more grownup/serious card than with critters (though this card definitely isn't the best example of that theory!).

Fab 'n' Funky:  use die cuts
