Chilly Friends @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Donna's turn to choose the challenge and it's "Chilly Friends" which just means that she wants to see those wintery-type critters like penguins, or polar bears or snowmen or maybe even people/kids in the winter outdoors. I know it wouldn't matter how many layers and gear I had on, if I'm outside in the winter, I'm chilly....though maybe not so friendly so I might not qualify for the challenge - ha!

This is what I did....

Got me a little polar bear on there.  Isn't he the funnest?  I love his shape.  I got a whole bunch of different ones of him in a set from Squigglefly (which is closed now, unfortunately :-(  ).  Went pretty cas for this one.  And the sentiment was already printed on the patterned paper - score!

Frosty Feeling @ Tiddly Inks

For the next two weeks at

we're all about that inevitable change in the weather....from cool to cold. Yep, the challenge is "Frosty Feeling" so let's see some snow, ice and cold critters....using a Tiddly Inks image, of course!

This is what I did.....

I told you I would use the last image from the Inky Critters set and here it is! What's more frosty than a polar bear wearing a scarf? Well, a polar bear without a scarf, I guess.  To make up for the fact that Mr. P. Bear isn't completely frosty I've got a few bit of snow, cool colours and a whole lot of sparkle to ramp up the frostiness.

Why not channel all things cold and enter the challenge?  And be sure to also check out the fabulousness the DT has come up with.

Celebrating Joy...'Coz, Why Not? - Fab Friday @ Tiddly Inks

A little bit ago I talked in a blog post about making up a different-ish sentiment in order to fit the needs of 1. the word stickers I had, 2. the colours that would match my card and 3. the amount of room I had on the card for said stickers.  Well, I had the same sort of situation this time 'round.

Here it is.....

So, this go, I was checking out the sticker sheet, seeing what what words were in the acceptable colours and I keep going back to the word "celebrating".....not so much because I wanted to use it, more because I didn't think I'd ever have another card that would 1. be this pink so a pink sentiment would be ideal and 2. have a layout that would accommodate such a long/large word.  Problem was that there weren't really any other words that were the proper colour that matched "celebrating" and, more importantly, the theme of the card.  And, I just couldn't talk myself into "Celebrating Sparkle".

Luckily, my alpha sticker fetish was able to come to the rescue.  Three little stickers, one little word, and presto, card complete.

Sparkle & Shine @ Little Red Wagon

it's Brenda's turn to choose the challenge and she's going with "Sparkle & Shine" which means she wants to see those projects with glitter, and/or Stickles and/or bling or you could go with images like candles and/or snowflakes and/or ice etc. etc. etc.

This is what I did.....

You know, sometimes you make a card for your DT duties and it's not up to snuff, kwim?  The challenge might be something like, "Use the Colour Pink" and well.....well, as a matter of fact, I could use this card to prove a bad DT member point if that was indeed the challenge this was made for.  Sure, there's definitely pink on there....but barely, so if this card was to be graded on a pinkness scale, it would get a D- for sure.

But, on the flip side, there's times when you nail a challenge theme so well you actually raise the card up over your head, dance aggressively around your craftroom yelling, "Boo-Yah!", shove it in one of your kids' faces going, "Oh yeah, look at that!", chicken walk back to your desk, and pretend to spike it down on the ground in utter victory.  I mean really, check it out.  It's got glitter paper as snowdrifts, a sentiment embossed with silver powder, a hat with bits of bling and a blue Stickled nose on Mr. Pengu.  (He's from Jellypark.....but I can't find the shop to link to it.  :-(  )  That's sparkle & shine in spades, my friends.

Harvest Blessings @ Melonheadz Friends

the challenge is "Harvest Blessings". Now, we're pretty much done our harvest 'round here. There's probably still some corn out there in spots (that's cow corn, not sweet corn, of course). In fact, we've had our first taste of winter in the past few days with below 0ºC temps, a wicked wind and a dusting of snow.

But, I still managed to channel some autumn feel and make this card....

It's Embossable! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

Sandy is hosting the challenge...and she's saying, "It's Embossable!" Aw, Sandy, life got you on the ropes this week and you're feeling overwhelmed? Oh, wait....that says embossable not impossible! Now I get it, she wants to see projects with (wet or dry) embossing!

I went with dry embossing for my make and I did something a little different.....

....I did some Selective Embossing, aka Spot Embossing, otherwise called A Little Bit Here, A Little Touch There Embossing....and various other silly names I could probably come up with if given a couple of minutes. Anyhoo, if you're not familiar with this technique, all you do is stick your paper in your embossing folders this way and that, and hit it with a rubber mallet.....or, if you're like me and too lazy to go out to the shop for the rubber mallet (and not wanting to hit your beloved embossing folders with something that's probably fairly dirty....and also not wanting to be bothered to clean it) you could just use a mini rolling pin and roll over the folder.

It's actually a pretty neat technique as you can get selectively target exactly where you want the embossing to be (without worrying about those unsightly edge-of-the-folder lines), you can use a number of different folders (I used four) and you can control how deep you want the embossing, which is a good thing considering that some patterned paper doesn't really get along with embossing folders and they can get too marked or even ripped.  So, there ya go.  Don't say you never learn anything here at Huh. So This Is a Blog.  Unless you already knew this technique.  Then you have my blessing to say you never learn anything at Huh. So This Is a Blog.

Sorry for the less-than-stellar photo.  Didn't have the opportunity to wait for better lighting, especially with it getting dark so early now.  Don't even get me started on that!  *looking a photo*  Hmmmm.... Like my artsy photo?  I thought it fit well with the theme of the card, a bit duller on the one side, accentuating the darkness of a wounded soul, to gradually brightening over the subject (a digi by Vera Lane), bringing her into the light, letting it flow over her so she can feel the warm of love and know that it will all be okay, so I purposely set it up like this.

we're all about gratitude. The challenge is "Thank You" which simply means that we want to see thank you projects, including a Tiddly Inks image, of course!

Lately I've been on a clean & simple trend, and this week is no exception....

You might be asking, where's my Tiddly Inks digi?  Well, while Christy is known from her super cute Wryn's and other characters, whimsical stamps and sweet animals, she does have other images too.  This wonderfully grungy sentiment stamp is from the Type Me Some Flowery Wishes - Mega Pack. Just goes to show that you don't have to be a colourist to use Tiddly Inks digis!

Let It Snow....But Oh Gawd Not Yet - Fab Friday @ Tiddly Inks

I'm not a big fan of snow.....it's cold and wet.  But, I have three kids who love to snowmobile so I do like to have enough snow for them to be able to do that.  But only that much snow.  And only if it falls between the hours of 1:00am - 4:00am.  And only if it never blows around.  And certainly only from December - February.

Is that too much to ask?

So, when you see me make a card like this.....

.....using Snowy Wishes & Snowman, know that I'm not necessarily meaning it as a command.  More like a suggestion for a future date.  Got that Mother's Nature?

Let's Get Sketchy! @ Little Red Wagon

This week at

it's Heather's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Let's Get Sketchy! which means she's got a sketch for us - yay!!

I love me a sketch challenge so I was excited to see what Heather had for us. Here, let me show you....

Pretty cool, eh?  Though I'll admit when I first saw it I was all like, "Oh no, not an oval!"  I'm not a fan of ovals.  I know, that sounds ridiculous, really, who doesn't like a shape?  But, then I remembered that just because the sketch used an oval, it didn't mean that I had to use an oval.  Sketches are for inspiration, you can rotate them, use different shapes, extend lines etc. and as long as the basic sketch can still be seen, it's all good.

So, with that in mind I set out to use a different shape than an oval.  But, in the end, I didn't get too far.....

....because, as you can see, I went with half an oval, or, to be correct, an arch.  I was happy how this turned out, so thank you, Heather, for the fantastic sketch!  Digi is from Bugaboo Stamps.

Use a Sentiment @ Melonheadz Friends

we've got an easy one for you! All you gotta do is use a sentiment on your project!

This is what I did....

I usually add a sentiment to my cards so for this challenge I thought I'd make it so there was more focus on the sentiment than what I normally do, so I used some large-ish black Thickers.  I also used an absolutely adorable image from the Peeperz set.  I've linked you to the combo pack so you can get both the black & white AND coloured images.

Went cas with this one, something I generally don't do.  I don't know why I don't do it more often, I really like how this turned out.  Probably has something to do with my 6x6 paper pack fetish.  I'd never make even a dent in it if I just used a strip like this per card!
