Back in the Game

I have a friend who had surgery on her knee earlier this week so this card is for her. She's very sporty, my friend, and she's sustained a lot of injuries requiring therapy/surgeries etc. She's also a year younger than me. I like to tease her that my slightly older body is just not as decrepit as hers and that is has nothing to do with the fact that she just "plays" way harder than me.

She's gracious enough not to smack me when I say that.

Just an FYI....my computer monitor is starting to go and in an effort to make it usable a little while longer I've cranked up the brightness. Fine for everyday use but it makes editing photos more guesswork than anything. So, if my pics ever look too dark or too bright or just plain wonky, please leave me a comment. Thanks!

Too Cute To Spook

It's a great sentiment for those cutesy Halloween cards.

Another thing: I have now officially dropped the apostrophe from the word Halloween. Yes, for years I used to spell it Hallowe'en. Now does anyone know why it was originally spelled with an apostrophe? Well, for those who don't (and who care) the reason is because Halloween is actually short for "All Hallows Eve" and the apostrophe replaces the missing "v". [I don't know why the "s" doesn't rate some sort of symbol and where the heck the "n" came from. Really it should have been shortened to Hallow⌂e'e. (I picked that other symbol 'cause it could represent a haunted house. tee hee)]

Anyhoo, I've recently read the following from different sources: "Spelling Hallowe'en is correct but old fashioned" and "Both Halloween and Hallowe'en remain acceptable spellings. Though Hallowe'en looks kind of dorky." So in an attempt to look hipper (That's hipper not hippy. I have no desire to look hippy in the 60s way or the dipped into the kids' stash of Halloween candy too many times way.) I decided to drop that antiquated apostrophe.

Ah, I feel much swankier now.

Face Your Fears @ Squigglefly

This week at Squigglefly the challenge is "Face Your Fears" which could be interpreted in any number of ways. You could make a Hallowe'en Card (like me), or you could try a new technique that you haven't worked up the nerve to attempt yet or you could even make a card about a something that scares you personally. (I could have totally made a card with butterflies on it for this challenge.)

But, like I said, I went with Hallowe'en.

I used Witch Moon witch (Tee hee, see what I did there?) you can get for yourself right here.

So why not creepy-crawly your way over to Squigglefly and enter the "Face Your Fears" challenge? You don't need to use a Squigglefly image but if you do use one you'll be eligible for this week's prize. There's lots of great images at the store if you'd like to purchase one, or if you'd like to try before you by, check out all the freebies right here.

Timbrophobia - Do I have it?

(I'll wait while you Google it real quick, or if you're willing to just read on you'll probably figure it out.)

I had made this card for my son to take to a birthday today. He was less than thrilled with it (and can't say I blame him too much, it turned out a little more young and less boyish looking than I had planned). So, being the wonderful mom I am (who was not looking for an excuse to be able to sit and craft at all) I made this card for the birthday instead.

And you'll notice that this card, like a number of the ones I've posted in the past short while, does not have any stamps on it whatsoever. In fact, the last five out of the six cards I've made (if you're really keeping track, some of the cards posted were made quite a bit before they were posted) have absolutely no stamping on them at all. None. No digi, no sentiment stamp, nada.

In fact, I have found myself completely avoiding stamps. I was thinking about using a monster truck digi for this card but went with this instead. So back to the original question, is it possible that I have timbrophobia?

Answer: No. Seeing as timbrophobia is actually a fear of postage stamps, and seeing as I just mailed a card the other day, I think it's safe to say I don't have it. And chances are I'll probably get back to using digi stamps in the near future. Though while perusing a list of phobias I will admit there are a few phobias I could definitely see myself developing. Like ballistophobia (fear of bullets or missles); helminthophobia (fear of being infested with worms); mottephobia (fear of moths, I'm already half-way there on that one) and zemmiphobia (fear of the great mole rat - I have no idea what a great mole rat is but I'm thinking I would definitely be very afraid of it).

I also found a couple of phobias that would totally suck to have, like optophobia (fear of opening one's eyes) and thaasophobia (fear of sitting). (I know "suck" is a little more potty-mouth than I normally am on my blog but really, the only words I could think of that were cleanish were "suck" and "bite".) And I found this one: pteronophobia (fear of being tickled by feathers). Really, did this one need to have it's own special name? You'd have to explain what it meant to anyone coming at you with a feather anyway.

And finally, I have to leave you with this one: hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia which is a fear of long words. Okay, that's just freakin' funny. (Again, I feel the "freakin' is totally justified.)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Gobble Gobble to all my follow Canucks.

I'm participating in the 52 Weeks of Mail challenge. It's kinda nice to give my cardmaking a bit of a purpose other than for my own enjoyment. Hopefully, I'll be able to last the whole year. Not that I think I'll flake out...when I start something it's rare for me to quit....I'm hoping that I know 52 people I could mail a card to. I can just see it now, sometime next summer my dentist will be staring, puzzled, at my card thinking, "Why on earth would a patient send me a "Canada Day" card?"

Anyway, I whipped up this quickie to mail to a lovely woman who's a friend of my deceased grandmother. I usually send her a card at Christmas but I thought it would be nice to send her this card too.

*giggle* When I was proof-reading my post my warped sense of humour reared its ugly head. The woman receiving the card was friends with my grandmother before my grandmother passed away, not friends with her now. (That would be quite a feat, eh?) My warped sense of humour is making me leave the post the way it is.

Paper Piecing Pizazz @ Squigglefly

This week at Squigglefly the challenge is "Paper Piecing Pizazz" which means to use one of my fav techniques - paper piecing!

Yep, it's one of my go-to techniques and Squigglefly has a lot of great images that make paper piecing so easy. If you want to see some of the other cards I've made using paper piecing and a Squigglefly image just click here, or here, or here, or here.

But you didn't come here to see old cards. You came to see my card for the challenge this week, right? Okay, here it is.

I used Baby Hammock which you can get for yourself right here. And, you'll notice (if you click on the link) that the baby in that hammock is facing to the left while the baby on my card is facing to the right. That's because with every Squigglefly image you buy you get the image flipped left and right so you can use the one that works best for you. Cool, eh?

So why not head over to Squigglefly and enter the "Paper Piecing Pizazz challenge? You don't need to use a Squigglefly image but if you do use one you'll be eligible for this week's prize. There's lots of great images at the store if you'd like to purchase one, or if you'd like to try before you by, check out all the freebies right here.

Happy World Card Making Day

I hope you are all celebrating today by getting crafty. I managed to squeeze in some crafty time and finished up a card I started last night. I figured that today, the most holiest of days for cardmakers, would be the perfect day to say "thank you" to all of you out there who have visited my humble corner of Blogdom.

So thank you, my friends.

And really, what better way to celebrate World Cardmaking Day than making a card on card? (I would love to claim this idea for my own but it came from 365 Cards. Cool idea, eh?)
