This week at
it's Brenda's turn to choose the challenge and she's saying, "Non-Traditional Christmas Colours"....well....actually, she's saying, "Non-Traditional Christmas Colors"....because she spells things silly. (: No matter how you say it, she wants to see those Christmas projects without any red or green.
Let me tell ya, I almost blew this challenge. I'll show you the card first.....
So, you ever have one of those days when you're colouring and it doesn't go so well and you're not sure if it's the paper or the pencils or the fact that you set your PVR to record a new show and just found out, about three episodes in, that you accidently set it to record on a French station and unless the whole show is just the characters saying, "Où est la salle de bain?" and "Je nes sais pas." back and forth to each other that there's no way you'll be able to understand any of it and that whole sich is throwing off your mojo? No? Just me then I guess.
Anyhoo, after I got it coloured up I knew I could get away with the subpar job with the flowers but the jug was another story. Horr-i-bull. Rather than starting over (and not really trusting that Round Two would be any better) I decided to paper piece the pot. I printed it out, got it all fussy cut, was picking out other papers.....when I realized that paper pieced paper was green. In my defense, not "Christmas" green, more of a mint green, but green nonetheless. Luckily, I realized it before I has glued it down so it wasn't a big deal to make the change. It looks better with the grey anyway.
Little tip for ya.....paper piecing an image like this.....which is from
Graciellie Design....well, it isn't really your "typical" image to paper piece seeing as the poinsettia and some of the stems overlap the jug. All you gotta do is simply fussy cut the paper piece part, but don't cut around the petals and such on the pot, leave them intact. Then, just use a craft knife to trim around the petals on the main image and you can then just slide the paper piecing piece underneath. Gives it a more natural look as the petals should look like they're over the jug and not flush with it as it would if you had trimmed them out of the paper piece piece. As for the other flora.....pffft.....don't even worry about that. In this case I didn't have to, but if you need to, you could just colour those tiny areas right on the patterned paper to match the rest. Hmmmm, don't know if that explanation is very clear.....ack, you all probably knew how to do that anyway.
