it's Brenda's turn to choose the challenge and, seeing as it's Learn About Compost Day, she's going with an upcycle/recycle theme. Gotta love when you can be a friend to the environment (even if it's on just a small scale!).
This is what I did.....
Hmmmmm.....not thrilled with that photo but it's a dark, drab day here (again....and again, and again, and again, and again, and again - our weather has been absolutely atrocious) so I'm not able to retake. But, I think you get the idea.
About this card.....first off, that's not a digi. It's a clear stamp from Dreamerland Crafts. I adore these stamps, I drool over them every year at ScrapFest but, sadly, I generally refrain from buying them as I find them a tad pricey, especially when compared to digis ($12.95 for a single stamp). I couldn't resist this one though as it totally reminds me of my oldest (who I've called Fuzzy Bear, from time to time, since he was a wee bear) as he loves eggs and it's his go-to meal if he's making his own supper and for weekend breakfasts....and often lunches. So, really, I couldn't not buy it.
Secondly....the upcycled/recycled element. Do you see it? Check out Chef Bear's hat. It's actually the baby wipe I used to clean off the stamp when I was done stamping. Just stamped the hat on a clean spot and cut it out. So, paper piecing without the paper.....(on the hat anyways, there's obviously also paper pieced paper on the card as well). And, I saved a bit of something that was destined for the garage. Hooray for my amazing efforts to help the environment! (Probably the fact the we recycle, compost etc. does more than my tiny scrap saved but they do say every little bit counts! (: )
Why not give our challenge a go this week and head on over to Little Red Wagon and link up? And, while you're there, be sure to check out the fantastic projects the other Girlfriends have created.

ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet card - and such a great idea to use the wipe for the chef's hat too!! The texture looks fabulous. It probably smells like your fuzzy bear did when he was little too!!

ReplyDeleteLove the chef's hat! I have been trying to figure a way to reuse my baby wipes (especially the ones I allow to dry out). Great techniques employed here. Your paper piecing is definitely on point and so very seamless! Thanks for playing along with us at A Place to Start!

Super cute, Jan! I'm so impressed with the 'pieced' chef hat. I wouldn't have thought of that and the wipe does give it a nice texture, too. Paper piecing on the bear is also spot on. Bravo for the recycling! Even on the smallest scale it's important. Although really, unless our governments step up to the plate and do something about big industrial polluters/emitters I fear individual efforts will not be able to offset their nefarious effects (hold on a sec...let me get down off my soapbox now...). Great card as always!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card, Jan. The image is very cute. Thank you for joining us at As You Like It. Luv, Wilma
ReplyDeleteThis stamp was definitely worth the price, especially with the darling story behind it. I'm going to have to remember the baby wipes. Sometimes my baby wipes end up prettier than my projects for real. Love your card, Janice!
