Emboss Everything! @ Little Red Wagon

 This week at

it's my turn to choose the challenge and I'm saying, "Emboss Everything!" which just means I would like to see some embossing on your project.  Just some, everything is not necessary.

This is what I did.....

As you can see, I've used an embossing folder, as well as a sentiment embossed with silver embossing powder.  What's that?  All those little dots of embossing powder around the sentiment?  I don't know what you're talking about.  Perhaps it's your screen.  *slides bottle of screen cleaner in your direction*

Ha, kidding of course!  While this is my favourite sentiment for sympathy cards (from MFT), I never have much luck getting a clean embossing of it.  This was my third attempt, so I just decided to go with it.  I was thinking about doing a light splatter of grey on the whole card to make it look that it was done purposely, but given what happened yesterday (more on that below), I decided to just leave it as is.

So, I had a bit of an.....issue.....here yesterday.  On the weekend I brought all my craft stuff up from where it was stored in the basement so I could get my craft area all back together again.  But, I had something come up.....nothing major at all, just something that needed my attention so I didn't have the opportunity to get everything put away on the new furniture.  Yesterday, while I was working, both my cats were kinda laying/playing around where my craft stuff was piled, which I didn't have a problem with until Ollie started chewing on some paper.  When I went over to take it from him, I noticed that a bottle of spray ink, which I had carelessly left on the carpet, was leaking.  Like, huge.  And, of course, Ollie had stepped in that ink and there were little smudges of cat prints all over the carpet in that area.  Now, luckily, the ink is very water soluble, so the little smudges cleaned up easily.  The big blot is another issue though.  The amount of ink that soaked into the carpet is A LOT.  The only way to clean it up seems to be to wet the area, and then use a paper towel to soak up the water/ink.  It's time consuming, to say the least.  My daughter spotted a plastic bag stuffed full of inky paper towels and asked if I had killed someone.  So, that's where my spare time has been going these last couple days.  Blotting at an ink spot on the carpet.  'Coz that's what counts as fun around here these days.  lol

So, why not give our challenge a go this week and join us?  And, if you'd like more inspiration, be sure to check out what the Girlfriends have made.

  4. Oh, no!!! That's not fun at all!!! I hope the inks all out of the carpet now. The card's really nice, though. I like your embossing and as far as I'm concerned those little sprinkles are just glitter to accent your sentiment.

  5. Beautiful folder Jan and gorgeous card..I use cornflour before I emboss and it stops those static beasts from getting all over my sentiments..most times..love your card and good luck with the ink, how awful all over your carpet, you could also try wetting the carpet and sprinkling lots of baking soda on it and then paper towel on top, when dry you vaccume..

  6. Jan, your sympathy card is lovely! The texture from both the embossing folder and the heat embossing are perfect! I see no spots, only added character! Sorry about your ink mishap. I learned the hard way that you do NOT blow into a printer ink cartridge to "help it" use more ink. It sprayed all over the beige carpet, my papers, and furniture!#$@! So I sympathize completely with your battle of the blot! Thank you so much for sharing your card and story with us at Try Stampin' on Tuesday!!! -Donna

  11. Such a lovely white textured background. Just peaceful and perfect for a sympathy card. They always feel so difficult for me. Thank you for sharing your card with Try Stampin' On Tuesday.
It is oddly reassuring and great fun to hear all our ink/splatter disaster stories! We all have several - like a crafter's badge of survival, right?

  12. Love that you used your embossed sentiment for your focal point and it looks so nice with the beautiful embossed background. What, dots? Also, kittens sure can add lost time to scrapping and my Cleo loves paper and the tape runner and hides them in her space behind some baskets. Thanks for sharing with us at Double Trouble and don't forget to add your entry to Use Your Stuff.

  13. Oh poor you. I have a tip for you with the ink. Buy a carpet cleaner like woolite, rub it in, then vacuum that bad boy up! Trust me, it works! Love your card, we all have HE challenges, but as I like to say, it's handmade so... Thanks for joining us at Retro Rubber this time. Claire DT

  14. So sorry for your carpet woes, but hopefully all is well by now in that regard. Love your beautiful sympathy card, which reminds me that I have this embossing folder and need to use it again!

  15. Oh no!! That's unfortunate about the spill (even though the little pawprints would have been cute and might have even made a unique carpet pattern).

Your card is fabulous and just perfect for a sympathy card. Simple and elegant.

Thanks for a fun challenge. I enjoyed my trip down memory lane with my embossing folders. You should do this challenge every week!

  16. Did not even notice those tiny little dots of embossing powder!...see you could have got away with it! lol

  17. Your post did make me laugh. Argh! Pets! Guaranteed to get their noses into whatever they can. Hope your ink spot comes out. I have to remember to leave my craft chair in the middle of the room. The dog jumps on it, and if he can reach the table, he eats whatever he can get to - rubber stamps, die cuts, paper...
I love your card, and the silver embossing is fine. I would never have noticed those extra sprinkles!

  20. I'm afraid I would have found a throw rug, or stenciled a canvas cover or something. I'm proud of you for persevering! Maybe there is a creation among those paper towels? Love your card, the tiny (and I do mean tiny as I can barely see the dots) are indicative of handmade care!

Okay, so ever since I started my blog (well, maybe not right from the get-go, it was probably a good six months or so before I realized you could change it from just "Leave your comment") I've tried to come up with something witty to type here.

*sitting with brow furrowed in concentration*...*staring at the ceiling while pursing lips*...*resting with head on hand while tapping foot*...

Nope, I still got nothing.
